Smile Thanks Andy

My best finds weren’t so much finds. Rather my best bits of 2018 are two absolutely outstanding professional repairs very kindly carried out by Magpie .

A lovely ORs Lonsdale Pals and Upper Thames Patrol HG restored to their former glory.

I’m truly indebted to you my friend.

Cheers,

Luke

P.S. Merry Christmas all and happy hunting in 2019.

Thumbs up

G'day Guys and a Merry Christmas to you all.

My top pieces are of course all 17th Lancers items.

First an 1880's period Czapka with a beautiful plate with battle honours to South Africa 1879, complete with horse hair plume, thanks Mac.
An 1821 pattern light cavalry officers sword with the Motto and Crimea battle honours etched on the blade. Thanks Tim
A officers walking cane with a silver Motto on the end of the handle and the officers name engraved on it, thanks Tim.
Several silver marked Mottoes.
A hallmarked silver NCO's Arm Motto , thanks Mac.
A large and heavy die cast white metal Skull & Bones, possibly for a pith helmet, thanks Mike.
A brass bit boss with a die cast Motto.
And probably the pick of the lot, a large white metal Skull & Bones for the Shabraque, its bones cross behind the head rather than below the jaw. Thanks again Mac.

One very happy Aussie.

Phil.

Smile Car boot find

This little badge appeared on a local car boot sellers stall with a "come and get me" price, a badge I have never seen before.

Default 2018 Successes

It's been a really interesting year in my very small world of collecting and highly successful in a number of different areas:

I have managed to obtain one of my all time wants (from a forum member too) A Royal Observer Corps National Service Rally badge - despite the number which must have been produced at the time, its only the second example I know which exists.

The second area is in the form of knowledge; another Forum member, has confirmed the existence of a badge which I hitherto have only seen an illustration of and I have been seeking to determine its existence for 15(?)+ years - but now I know that there are two different examples which I need to try and find.

Thirdly - I have made some now contacts /friends who have tipped me off to a number of badges and helped me unravel some of the mysteries of badge collecting in my small and unique area of interest.

Finally - I have discovered "The Formation Sign" through the wonderful "RAF 100 Year Anniversary Edition". Now I am a member of the Military Heraldry Society, and (although a little later than I wanted to be) I am in the final stages of completing what I hope will be my first (or a number) of articles for others to read!

So thanks to everyone but notably; Jon, Dave and Richard - I've had a great year!!

Best wishes for 2019 Everyone and I wish you all good fortune in collecting and finding those illusive items you are all seeking

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Attached are two nice wings and a seldom seen title to the United Nations 'Tiger' Brigade worn during the Korean Conflict by South Korean soldiers and their advisors.

Good collecting in 2019.

Default 19th Hussars

Merry Xmas All,

Really pleased with this little fella, die cast, two lugs to reverse, purportedly for an officer's OSD cap (but not sure if also a collar), seems to be pointing the right way for a cap. Now added to my collection of nellies!

Happy Hunting in 2019!

Cheers
Mike

A wonderful sentiment that I can relate to, as I recently purchased a group of medals that had belonged to a friend of my late father, the cost is irrelevant...

Enjoy the hobby, Keith
