Default 9th(Glasgow Highlanders) Highland Light Infantry

I note there have been several posts regarding the Glasgow Highlanders so I have downloaded some scans from a WW1 photo I have recently obtained of the Band. I apologise for the quality but they often say one photo is worth a 1,000 words.
1. Shows the sporran badge as trews were not adopted even though the Battalion was part of the HLI.
2. The Bandmans' badge (Lyre) which does not appear to be the 'standard' issue is worn on both arms and appears to have a cloth backing - could this be black as a reminder of the Black Watch? The epaulette has quite a lot of metalwork on it and the 3 letters are HLI.
3. The Bass drum shows the badge with Glasgow Highlanders above.

Hello peter, what you have on top of the Bass drum looks like a cymbal more than a helmet.

It is the standard bandmans badge (Lyre in wreath with crown above), and the shoulder titles are possibly T over 9 over a strung bugle horn over the letters H L I

Hi 54Bty
Many thanks for that. Having had a close look I think you are quite correct in the the epaulettes have the T over 9 over strung bugle horn over HLI - thats quite a lot on an epaulette! Would also agree about standard lyre badge although only few of the Band are actually wearing lyre badges.

Hi Danny
Very pleased indeed that the Committee found the photo of interest.
Kind regards
Peter
