Unknown Cap badge
Can anyone identify this unit for me please?
I am wondering if he is a Bandsman but unfortunately he is sat the wrong way round so I can't see his right arm! Many thanks Peter 4447 |

Hi peter. I'm really going on a limb here. I remember seeing something, in one of the album (Tynesideirish, p.1 & p.2), about an early badge to the Lothian and Border Horse Cavalry.Have a look and see if it matches.

Looks like a Lothian and Border Horse, a Garb above a scroll.

If it is anything to do with the Lothians I would think it would be Lothian and Berwickshire Imperial Yeomanry ( KK 1348 ) but still not entirely convinced.

I photoshopped it and played about a bit. It does look like a L&BIY garb, it could be on the Staff pattern forage cap of polished leather peak, dark blue crown and scarlet faced headband. (pre light blue facings)
It could be Large Garb on the collar but they look like Grenades! Strange. |

Hi All
Many thanks for your very speedy and helpful replies. I have no knowledge of the unit mentioned ever having had a Band so I must assume the photo is of a Trooper wearing his No 1's to have his portrait taken! Thank you again Gentlemen - it really is appreciated. Peter |
