The hackle - possibly the white over red of 2 HLI (1 HLI from 1947)?

A helmet sold at auction, stated to be a HLI officers helmet, 1938, shows the red over white hackle & a similar flash:

I thought the HLI wore trews, not kilts?
The design with the light stripe looks like the yellow stripe in a Gordon tartan to me.
Cheers,
Alex

So did I, but there are photos of HLI kilted & I've seen other illustrations of HLI in kilts.
Looks like 6th wore McKenzie & 9th Government tartan.

It doesn't look like kilts to me, didn't some regiments wear cut down trews?
Photo of HLI in short tartan trousers in Wilkinson-Latham 'Scottish military uniforms', p. 105 plate 49.

Rgds, Thomas.
