Sorry looks like a reproduction to me. All the originals seem to have white backs. There are black backed originals, but they all seem to be obviously modified from other titles.

This is a typical correct white back example:

These are black backed variants that look like they've been modified from other titles for some reason:

Just as a warning the black backed No 5 in Lot 380 of the up and coming C&T looks like a fake (not a fan of the brass 5 either). The No 9 in lot 444 is also a duffer. Don't get me started on Lot 378!

I agree with Paul, a reproduction title.

Default Numerals

Quote: these are black backed variants that look like they've been modified from other titles for some reason:

I have/had some numerals as in attached pictures and, looking at the link to 'manafactured' titles, wondered if anyone could offer opinion to their origin/use

The numeral 2 is about 1/2 inch tall

My thoughts were that they are likely to have no connection to Commando units but am curious as to what they might be

Hello Ray
Do they glow? - just to try and help identify them. As you suggest, they do not look to be Commando related but any glow may helpfully identify an alternative time frame.

Default Working on it

Evening Mike

I have to confess that I have lost the 2 that I managed to peel back and the other one peels as far as the numeral and no further. The two 4 numerals are in a case at present but I will get them in the next couple of days to see if they glow.

Doesn't seem to match the Red Cross red on black COMMANDANT titles I have in any way.

I believe these numerals are to go with red on black civil defence titles. I have some Hampshire titles that came with some. I'm away for the next week but will post phots when I get back if anyones interested,
cheers,

Paul

Sorry for the delay guys, I originally bought a couple of these numbers thinking they were commando related but then saw these Hampshire titles with the same numerals and bought them for comparison, as stated previously I believe they are Civil Defence related, cheers,

Paul

Default No glow

Thanks for the images Paul.
I also kept the ones I picked up in case they were Commando related.

There seems a pretty distinct difference in the 4 on yours to mine, and mine are white backed which is another difference.
My two 4s do not glow either..
The 2 I have is different again with a stiff (almost rubbery) black backing over the thread.

I fear I am and may never be any closer to working out what these connect to
