I believe from remarks made by Peter that the idea for the badge came
from the knife - which would make more sense than the other way round anyway.

Default True or false?

Many moons ago I was preparing a lecture on the FS Dagger for my PW course and read an article on this badge/knife. It basically said that the origins of the knife/dagger itself was a hand-made WWI trench dagger and that it was adopted for the badge to be different from the dagger used on its own or with SS for other like units. The article went on to say that there was a little embarrasment when it was learnt that the original hand-made knife, although replicated in large numbers by our WWI troops, was in fact liberated from a German trench!
In these metal badges, I have what I think 'may' be an original of the single dagger badge plus copies of this trench knife badge and the two dagger ones with SS or SS Commando added. I intend including these in a display of my RM badges etc in order to show where today's Commando jointly originated from. Are there any other WWII metal commando related badges I should be seeking copies of for that display?
