Default Todays pickup Winnipeg Rifles
2009 is off to a good start... stopped by the local antique store today and came away with some nice Winnipeg Rifles items. The cap badge is a 2 piece flatback Scully marked. I believe the small badge to the right is a hat boss but have never seen one before so am looking for confirmation of what it is. The button has a nice Black devil on it.

Jim, I hope you buy lottery tickets. You have some great luck finding good badges. That two piece R WPG R is a very nice find. It appears to be an officer's badge.
I think you are right that the other badge is a hat boss, but I have never seen a R Wpg R one.

Jim, I was loaned a copy of the GO's for 1937, and the approval for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles is GO 25. Of interest, the GO's give a good word description of the badge. The officer's is described as having a black devil, on oxidized silver. The badge was to measure an extreme height of 2 inches and extreme width of 1 3/4 inches.
Unfortunately no mention of a hat boss.

To bad the hat boss wasn't in there but it hits the cap badge right on... no hallmark for the silver though...

Chris Brooker has a Winnipeg Rifles boss on auction this week. It appears to be different than the one posted above. Chris has also added a couple of comments about the boss. He suggests that it may have been worn on the khaki service cap. (Not 100% sure which cap he means, the forage cap or the side cap.)

I believe that the boss is for the Coloured Field Service cap. Please let me know if/when you wish to part with this as I have a cap missing same.
