Default SAAF Signals plaque

Found this SAAF plaque with a signals connection recently at the local boot sale. There appears to be a missing plate that was nailed to the wood base below the badge. A manufacturer/suppliers tag is on the back reading "Randles Bro. & Hudson Ltd. Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, Durban"

Is anyone able to shed more light on this item.

Regards
Steven

Steven that was a famous jeweller up here. Not sure if they still trading but were a few years back.

A lovely find, such a pity the name plaque has been removed.

Thanks Brian and Milhistory,
I wonder whether it was a purchase item as a souvenier or an award for 1st in class achievement.
