Default Collar Badge Guessing

Anyone care to have a guess at this one. A request from a genealogist. collar badge might be cavalry?? (just my guess)

Officer's name is "Howe" - not 100% sure christian name, has little other info - grateful of anything.

trying to pin down unit and period would be good first steps.

Doesnt look like any Cavalry badge that comes to mind. More like ASC or something similar.

Thanks CB, yes I see it now - does look like asc. I'll check the army list for the latter years of the war and see how many "Howes" are in there. This chap looks to be MID so may help narrow it down a bit.

(must have been looking at cavalry badges too much lately- I'm seeing them everywhere)

Probably ASC although there is one other possibility - Middlesex Yeomanry.

Cheers

Hi Chris

I would agree with the Middlesex Yeomanry..... if you look at the shoulder button you will also see that it is a half ball Hussar button. The shirt is also a very good indicator for a Cavalry officer.

Purely speculation because it's impossible to tell conclusively, Devonshire perhaps?
