Default White metal Coldstream Guards' cap star

Is it a white metal Coldstream Gaurds cap star or somehting else?

Age blacked lugs so it is not modern.

Similiar to this one which has the militia title so I am dubious about this w/m CG one being anything other than a CG badge.

Alan,

I had thought I had read somewhere that the Surrey Militia badge was " as the Coldstream Guards but in white metal " I will try and find where I read it .

I had read the same thing but it was the identity I could not remember. It's either K&K or Gaylor. However as minden militaria have an example that shows of a militia bagde with its own title, they may not be 100% accurate.

I've seen it sold plenty of times as the 2nd Royal Surrey Militia but I think that's totally incorrect. This is the correct badge and a pair of collars.

Alan,
as Keith has already pointed out the Militia badge has the title in place of the Motto, otherwise the pattern is identical only in Wm.

99% of the Wm COLDM GDS badges offered for sale are IMO spurious, however yours does look okay. I have heard anecdotal accounts that Guardsman employed as "Messengers" wore Wm badges. Whether or not this is accurate, I have yet to establish? It may explain your badge and also the WG one shown by Brookies on another thread! One I would certainly keep hold of!

I have a w/m badge with west/east lugs, picked it up about 20 - 25 years ago, I assumed it was meant to be a militia units ( as per K & K ). It has the word "silver" stamped in the centre of the reverse, a small marking but slightly visible on the front. I don't think it" silver.....

No it doesn't, it has "STG SIL" stamped on the back.
Very poor quality photos but my wife sacrificed camera quality for a (supposedly) fat stubby finger friendly key pad:
I just have a note that it's RA Militia, picked up from a dealer in Peterborough in Jan 1992.

I'd take it off your hands if your thinking of selling, or swopping. From my for Sale album.
