Default Seaforth Badge Question

The brass version of this illustrated badge appears in Daniel Mazeas' book on pre-1914 badges. ( MM 210 ) The other is a silver version marked "Birks" and "Sterling". The brass one has lugs, the other has a pin and clasp. Is the silver one an officers badge or do I have a sweetheart pin? The clap appears to be of a pre-1914 era.
