Default SAS Brass badge?

Hi am sure you will point me in the correct direction on this SAS Brass badge? not British but could this be Rhodesian or a total fantasy badge? thick and well made but am leaning towards a fantasy badge? look forward to your views cheers billy (P.S. with trepidation!)

Default SAS tropicial wings

hi Billly,

Your wing is a SAS tropical wing, made in brass.

This is a classic case of good news and bad news:

The good news: the wing was officially designed and authorized in the fifties, 1953 if I recall correctly. The wing is shown on official SAS badge displays of 21 SAS (dated 18-9-1956) and 22 SAS (dated ca. 1960) for wear on No. 3 dress and Tropical Dress. Pictures of these displays have been posted on this Forum.

At the same time a brass parachute wing for the Parachute Regiment appeared.

The bad news: despite the official status, I have never seen any evidence of the wing actually being worn!

Still, I would definitely include it in your collection!

Cheers,

Johan

I saw one worn on a brassard by CSgt Singleton of the LOYALS who was serving in an Army Youth Team based in the Liverpool area in late 1960s. The AYT was supporting local ACF and CCF units.

Kind of like the mythical British GSMs for Vietnam in that respect then?

Hello Billy,
The RhSAS never wore any metal badges. The only Rhodesian regiment that was para trained that wore metal badges was the Selous Scout Regiment and their wings were made from bronze.
