Thanks Howard!
I was actually expecting to see smaller versions of the hat badge as collar badges. Mick |

1938 GM KDG Badge
Quote:
Anyway..... KDG only wore WM badges and seemed to have an aversion to the GM badge that has carried on to QDG. When the Star & Garter 1915 badge was replaced in 1938 with the Eagle, the 'official' Army issue was in GM. BUT the Regt knew this so ordered WM versions and sold them in the PRI, making all buy them. Eventually WM was adopted in 1949 as the 'official' badge material. The GM badge and collar were never worn. Pic attached H |

Qdg Uniform
Quote:
Mick When the 2 Regiments amalgamated in 1959, KDG said thay only wanted 2 things not to change. The Cap Badge and the Regimental March - Redetski's March - and therfore almost all other dress distinctions within QDG are Queen's Bays, including collars, style of titles, NCOs Arm Badges, uniform cloth and Blues overall trouser stripe..... Small price to pay for a fab badge and March!! H |

Howard i assumed (wrongly) that these were collars that went with the cap badge as they are a couple of mm smaller.

When i joined QDG in 75 i went to Catterick and was issued a staybright badge. I knew the Regiment wore WM and had bought one off a friend. I asked the link Sgt if i could wear it and he firmly told me that i didnt deserve to wear a "Real Badge" yet and could only do so on finishing basic trg. He duly confiscated the badge! So when the great day came, i arrived at QDG as a Nig Trooper wearing my staybright...... only to have the SSM pluck it out of my Beret on first parade and stamp on it.... after i got out of jail....... i was marched to the PRI to buy one, which i duly buffed up with brasso and cardboard (as was and still is the custom) ready for the next day.... 33 years later..... same badge is still in my SD cap.... shiney as can be!! |

Staybright.....?
Quote:
This has always been a mystery to me...... and i apologies for my ignorance in these matters.... But We always regarded any badge other than the white metal one and especially one that required no cleaning as a staybright. Now that i am a tadge (and i mean a tadge on staybright matters) more informed; i know that there were chromed, silvered and AA items..... with AA items being the ones termed staybright. I still have a problem differentiating between AA and chromed, silvered is easy.... Therefore, in my simple mind.... anything perpetually shiny is a staybright..... and the one you had in your picture would never have been worn by KDG or QDG and especially with those collars. The badge for those collars is the KDG WM cap badge. Howard |

Little Teaser?!
Just to keep the thread going.... Any ideas on what this item might be? The brooch type fixing is original. The badge is 60mm long and 54mm wide, so quite big......It is made of low grade solid Indian Silver.

Help
Hi everyone,i am pretty certain this is the bottom half of a gilded Officer's undress pouch badge. As you can see it has post fixings and is around 42mm long by 40mm wide. It would have been surmounted by a crown and in this case almost certainly a KC.
My question is; does anyone know where i might source/find the crown? |

Good!
I would say, that this is possibly, bordering toward probably.... a cast type badge made in either Jordon or Libya during the Bays overseas tour of 1955-57.
But like all badges, they only 'speak' to you when you hold them..... I would say its probably ok. H |
