Toronto III
I found this to be an interesting item. The Toronto scroll and crown are missing but has been expertly ground down at the leaf points. The part I like is the makers mark... h. rosenthal / toronto Charlton's lists that as a maker of WW1 badges but i'm thinking the scroll on WW1 badges had a slightly different setup re the maple leaf attachment points. So did Rosenthal continue on making this badge into the 1921 era? Need a Rosenthal for the maker mark section?

The Toronto Rgt did perpetuate the Third into the 30s AND this could be an early prototype .

3rd Bn cap badge varieties
Hello Jim, Here is an image of three of the 3rd Battalion badges that are in my accumulation. As far as has been established, these badges are CEF. Note that the cast Rosenthal badge appears to be the same die as your modified badge.

Bill... it was my assumption that the CEF badges were more like the first example...filled in at the scroll attachment... and that the later badges were more voided at that point..the attachment points on my modified badge seem to be consistent with your cef example... thanks for showing Jim

Later examples where stamped brass with wide numerals of lesser quality of the CEF examples. Of course old stocks where used up also as this unit was in existance until 1936.
