Default My Small Queens Own Rifles of Canada Collection

Hi guys, here is my meager QOR collection. I only have post 1900 stuff. I particularily like the 1970s era jump company officers badge in bullion. The officers mess dress collars are sweet to! Is anyone aware of other distinctive pattern mess dress collars, or badges for any other regiments?

Hi,
I've added a photo of an officer's coloured field service cap of this regiment. (WW2 era)
they had special permission to wear queen victoria's crown, so the rifle regiment buttons and cap badge have a QVC.
I think this is the only regiment wearing QVC during WW2.

Greg,
Nice collection of badges, but hardly what I would call meagre (the English
spelling) - I have always liked bullion badges and these look very good.

Pierre,
Whats the history behind the small red "bobble" and why were
they allowed to keep the QVC?

Hi,
I don't really know.
The "queen's own rifles of canada" title was given to this regiment after the battle of Ridgeway, during the Fenian raids in 1866.
Some of the members of the regiment went to south africa during the boer war.
Why a red bobble, I don't Know.
Later cap of the 50's had the regular Queen crown cap.

On the buttons you can see it is definitively QVC crowns.( not like the british queen Victoria's who had King's crown during WW2).

I'm not a specialist of canadian militaria!

1 cap buttons
2 8th Queen Victoria's Rifles (K.R.R.C) the bobble would be the equivalent of the british boss ?

We need a specialist.

Agree with you about the specialist.
Its interesting that your "badge boss" has a figure very similar to that of the Northumberland Fusiliers (5th Foot) - at least as far as St George and the dragon goes - the 5th didn't top their badge with a KC. I am not aware of any other English regiment that uses this. The only time I have seen any
crown used with the 5th Foot was on a shoulder belt plate from the 1830's.
Maybe (on your badge), its just symbolic of an "English" connection
in some way. Would be interesting to try and get top the bottom of
this one...

Default 9th (Queen victoria's Rifles) London battalion.

the badge on boss is british. You are right, st georges and dragon .
The 8th and 9th battalions of the King's Royal Rifle Corps were the old 9th (Queen victoria's Rifles) London battalion.
You can find St georges + dragon on the old london Rgt badge.
Cheers. Pierre

Pierre,
I had never noticed - but then I don't collect many of the London
regiments apart from the Royal Fus (7th). You live and learn.
I must track some of these down to go with the NF badges I have.
Good hunting, david

Pierre, I will defer this to Clive Law, but your glengarry may be an older issue cap as worn by other ranks of the QOR pre-1914 era. On his web site, he has an image of the coloured field service cap for the regiment that is quite different than the one illustrated. Coloured Field Service Caps
There are a couple of reasons that the glengarry may be an older issue. First, the cap badge is the pre-1914 type, other ranks. The WW2 cap badges were white metal. Second, the boss is different on WW2 cfs caps. Again, Clive has more expertise here, and he may have other opinions.
The Royal Canadian Regiment were also granted permission to wear the QVC crown after WW1. (Actually a variation of the St Edward's Victorian crown.)

The cap illustrated on the web site is rifle green with a red boss, very similar to the K.R.R.C' s.

Sorry I've missed the 2 other cap of this regiment, at the bottom of the page.
Could Clive give us more details (Why 2 different caps for the same regiment)?

That will be Queen's Road, Battersea. SW London - however, I wasn't aware that there was a Queens Road in Battersea. The only one I know of in SW London is in the Wimbledon (SW19) area.
They are quite a distance apart. Unless there was a Queens Road during the war and it got changed due to bombing/rebuilding. That doesn't seem likely though...
