Default Military History - Liverpool and area.

This is probably well known to the experts but it was new - and fascinating - to me. I came across it when searching for details of the Lancashire Hussars (RHA) in WW2.

Default Lancashire Hussars HQ`s WW1 and WW2

The headquarters of the Lancashire Hussars in 1914 was given as Prince Alfred Road, Liverpool 15. This road ran behind my old school The Blue Coat and I often wondered where the headquarters could have been because there was no building of the sort of size that could have been used as a Yeomanry H.Q. when I was at school.

Quite recently I was sent some information about old Liverpool Drill Halls and among the information was a copy of an old O.S. sheet showing a building known as Church Stile House. This was on part of a large field which became a public park known locally as "The Mystery" locally because supposedly no one knew what had given it to the City. The field was on the opposite side of Prince Alfred Road from , and directly opposite, my old school. I was surprised and pleased to discover where it was, but it was of course demolished many years ago and absolutely nothing remains of the building.

Mike,

That is a great site you give the link to, I discovered it some time ago and keep going back to it. I also have a copy of the OS sheet for the building you were looking for and that is also attached.
