Request for Help please
If anyone is a signed up member of "Forces War Records " I wonder if they would kindly do a look up for me, I know there is some information on the man on the site but you need to be a member to see.
Please send me a PM if you can help. Thanks P.B.

I decided to spend £8 odd on a months subscription to the site, my advice to anyone thinking doing the same is don't.
The information about the man I was interested in was minimal, I then did searches on a number of soldiers I already had information on and in most cases a search did not even find an entry for them. The site appears to be aimed at making money for its owners including selling ( what I presume are repro ) medals. P.B.

The information I gleaned was the same as recorded on the CWGC site and the MN memorial. Like PB I could not find some relatives, perhaps their records were lost during WW2. I have not continued with my membership. Martin. |

Please take note.
I have also posted this warning in relation to another thread. I have used capital letters to emphasise this warning. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT SIGN UP TO FORCES WAR RECORDS. I DID SO A WHILE AGO, FOR THE MONTHS TRIAL OR HOWEVER THEY ADVERTISED IT. I USED IT FOR A COUPLE OF CHECKS AND THAT WAS IT. THEY CONTINUED TO TAKE MY MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR ANOTHER 8 MONTHS AND EVENTUALLY THEY WERE STOPPED WHEN MY BANK INTERVENED. I ASKED TO BE REFUNDED ALL THE UNAUTHORISED PAYMENTS BUT DESPITE MANY EMAILS TO THEM THEY KEPT GIVING EXCUSES, E.G. THE ACCOUNT HAD BEEN OPENED IN ANOTHER NAME, THEY COULDN'T FIND MY NAME ETC AFTER SOME RESEARCH INTO THEM ON T'INTERNET, I THREATENED THEM WITH LEGAL ACTION AND THEY IMMEDIATELY EMAILED ME STATING THEY HAD FOUND THE ACCOUNT AND FUNDS STARTED TRICKLING BACK INTO MY ACCOUNT. THAT WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO, YET IT STILL HASN'T ALL BEEN REFUNDED. HAVE A LOOK AT THEIR BAD PUBLICITY ON T'INTERNET BEFORE THINKING ABOUT JOINING UP. I KNOW THAT THE SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN ENCOUNTERED BY ANOTHER MEMBER OF THIS FORUM. Regards Brian |

Thanks Brian,
I sent them an E mail complaining about the lack of results to some searches and saying I only wanted a months membership and this is the response: Dear Member, No problem at all, we have switched off automated renewal of your subscription for you. Once the paid for membership has expired it will revert to a basic account and you can return to full subscription at any time. We apologise that you have had trouble in finding the information you seek of your ancestors details on our site. Forces War Records holds approximately 5 million name records, with varying details from literally hundreds of different sources, but we are continually adding more data to each record as well as more records. If you could provide us with details of your ancestor(s) records you seek, one of our researchers will do a more in-depth search for you of our database records to see if we hold any more information about the person(s) you require. I will have to keep my fingers crossed that they are as good as their word and will not take further payments. I will not be providing further details as I was only testing to see what they would have on soldiers I know a lot about. Peter

This outfit does seem to be getting a very bad name. I hope we're not coming down on them unnecessarily though?

Hussar 100,
Rather like with the less than reputable dealers, one can only tell of ones own experiences with sellers or sites like this, it is then up to the individual to decide whether to have regard to others experiences or deal with them anyway. P.B.
