Default Japanese made bullion Canadian paratrooper wing?

I bought this bullion Canadian paratrooper wing yesterday at an insignia show in Hayward, California. The seller told me that he had purchased the estate of a USMC Veteran who lived in Japan during the 1950s which was still under US occupation. This USMC Veteran supposedly bought an enormous amount of Japanese occupation made US insignia to include this Canadian paratrooper wing. Does anyone know if the construction of this wing looks Japanese made from the mentioned time period?

Hi there, it's hard to say if this is a Japan-made wing, made during the Korean War. Typically, you see the KW wing on a green background. The Korean war wing is erroneously called a PPCLI pattern wing but any para- qualified soldier could buy one. These were not authorized but I have seen tunics with the Japan made divisional patches and brevets sewn on. I've attached a typical example from my album for reference. Perhaps a specialist can help with more info.

Regards,

Greg

Very nice looking wing, however, I can’t say I’ve seen this particular version.

Thanks for posting it.

This is not a definitive yes or no, but that backing material on the bullion wire badge bothers me. I have several Japanese made badges in my collection and none of them have that mesh style backing.

Default Bullion Cdn Para Badge

Hi

This is an interesting badge and has the tinsel looking thread. The backing does resemble some Japanese badges made during the Korean war for the US Logistics Command. It is trying to mimic an English made bullion badge like the ones purchased there during WW 2. It is too well constructed to be copy of any sort.

Regards

Ken

I know that this is not a Canadian paratrooper wing but I thought I'd post it here as it was made by the same people who made the bullion Canadian paratrooper wing. This came out of the mentioned lot of 1950s era Japanese made US insignia that was sold to someone who did not want this bullion British paratrooper wing. So it was offered to me at an insignia show last Sunday and I bought it. The backing material are identical.
