Default New WW1 Sitcom - "Chickens"

Did anybody see the first episode of the new WW1 sitcom entitled "Chickens" broadcast on Sky1 last night at 9.30?

Believe it or not, it is about a group of Conscientious Objectors, hence the name.

If you think that sounds dire take a look at the "Sneak Peek":

Words (almost) fail me. To say that this is trivialisation of a serious issue is an understatement. Mike

It's good to see someone's actually making an effort to produce something original we haven't already seen about the Great War, even if it is a comedy.

I'm surprised it has taken someone so long to come up with this, Black Adder Goes Forth seems like a life time ago!

The Great War doesn't make great subject material because of the horrors and hardships associated with it............so accurate dramas do not get the genral public watching unless the war just happens to slip into the plot like Downton. Having said as someone who has a wall of books on the subject of the Great War I hope we do see more dramatisations of true stories because many of the stories of Battalions and individual soldiers deserve their own feature films IMO. All The Kings Men was a great example of what can be achieved.

Now that everyone is dead, they have artistic licence to do what they want. Personally, I wouldn't watch something like that on the basis that "you never know" what you would do. I have always felt the same way about the "collaborators" in France (and elsewhere) that were treated the way they were. Who knows how many Brits would have stood up to the Nazi's had an invasion gone ahead..... Who knows.
