Default 96 Lake Superior Regiment Officer's helmet plate and collars

The majority of postings in the Canadian forums have been about WW1 or later badges. The odd pre-1914 badge shows up, but there have been very few postings of Canadian helmet plates.
Here is one, a pride and joy of my collection, an officer's 96th Lake Superior Regiment helmet plate. The badge has numerals in sterling or plated silver, and the badge and star in gilt. (Fire gilt?). The collars are similar, being silver finish numerals on gilt badge. The 96th LSR was re-formed in 1905, and the helmet plate was authorized in 1910. (GO 86).

Bill... it would be the highlight of anyone's collection.Congratulations on owning such a nice piece of history. I think it's a little tougher (and more expensive) to move into the pre 14 badges due to availability but it is sure nice to tie a regiments badges together in sequence.... adds to the hobby... thanks for showing

Thanks Jim. Your point about "chronological collecting" is the approach I have taken with the regiments I collect. The chronological approach to a group of selected units is certainly an achieveable approach, on a limited budget, to creating a good collection. Deep pockets are needed to collect "horizontally" in most cases.

It is getting very difficult to find Canadian helmet plates. Few are available, even at the auctions. Even the 1908 tercetenary plates are difficult to find.

Hi Bill, I took these at the LSSR regimental museum.

Cheers,

Yep, I believe the officers' forage cap badge is the centre of the helmet plate.
