Canadian Search and Rescue Qualification wings, various orders of dress. Again 70's through current. The top left one is harder to find.

Good day Jon,
I know it's been a while since you posted your pics, but I'm new and I'm trolling through the threads. Your badges are for the specialty "Rescue Specialist". This was a specialty only from 1970 until 1979 when it became the separate trade "Search and Rescue Technician" (SAR Tech). Your badges are the early examples used from about 1972 until about 1977. You can tell by the short wings with only 9 feathers. Can't tell you about the reason for the whole gold parachute, though it's a known variant. The subdued combat wing was a trial and never adopted (however the SAR Tech wing is available in subdued). The bottom wings are the fancier versions, the left being Lurex and the right in wire bullion. Between 1977 and 1979, the design was changed to a longer wing of 15 feathers. Even though the SAR Tech trade was brought in in 1979, the Rescue Specialist badge continued to be used until the SAR Tech badge was approved in 1982. The wings were changed to horizontal out stretched wings like the other CF aircrew wings with the same purple laurels, crown and open parachute. I would say that the colour versions are not 'rare-rare', but you may have to look some to find others. The subdued and yellow chute are probably the scarcest. If you still have them, I would be interested. Hope this is of some help. Stay safe and have fun. Cheers, Ian Last edited by Ian B; 13-03-14 at 09:07 PM. Reason: extra info |
