Default 2nd CAB Flashes

Hello all. I have 6 (six) 2nd CAB Flashes shown below. The two that are monted on the uniform appear to match each other. In the photo of four, the top two (cloth patches) seem to be matched; however, the bottom two canvas flashes apear to be quite different. Does anyone know how many variations of canvas patches were made for this Brigade group? Is there anything of significant import to either (or any) of the flashes in these pictures. Just would like to get some comments and feedback. Many thanks.

Hello Duncan, There were two distinct types of printed patches, one was printed on Cotton Drill No 2 and the other on Satin Drill No 2. The first is thicker and somewhat duller, while the Satin Drill is a bit thinner feeling and seems a bit more "reflective". However not all the overseas formations and units had the two types, as the Cotton Drill was used from early 1943 until about April 1944. Then all the printed titles and signs were on Satin Drill.

Hi Bill. Thanks for the reply. So, if I understand you correctly, the "cotton" printed flash would likely be the bottom left image (and the flash almost seems to have a very slight "ridge" around it's parameter), while the more "vibrant colored" one (the one that closer matches the two top cloth patches) is the "silk" version of the printed flash. Is this right? Also, would these two "types" also be true of the printed shoulder titles for the regiments in the 2 CAB?

Hello Duncan, Printed titles are notoriously difficult to pin down. Different printing runs may have slightly different colours. More importantly, exposure to light affect printed titles, and this can quickly change the hues. It is difficult to tell which type the patches are from images, and they may be both the same type.
