mystery epaulette
Hi, possibly the forum may help. Would love to pos i.d. this remnant of an old metal epaulette. The silver metal cross has a central fleur-de-lis. I suspect it may be Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Bourbon Rule), mid 19th century, but would really appreciate any info. Rgds, GTB

Just for the sake of it, have you considerd it being from one of the Germanic/Austro-Hungarian regiments due to the Teutonic type of cross. Even the Tzarist Russians had similar crosses, although I must admit that the Fleur de Lys at that time was much used by Royalist France and the Two-Sicilies.
What are the other designs on the branches of the cross? Or are they just floral/leaf patterns? Rgds, button_guru ------------------------- Buttons aren't just a hobby! |

Hi. thanks for yr input. I have considered both Prussian & Imperial Russian as potential source, with the latter as most likely. However, the Bourbon claim is stronger although I have not found this precise insignia in my research. The decoration of the cross arms is leaf pattern. Rgds, GTB.
