Default Insignia on German helmet

Apologies if this upsets any members of the Forum but can anyone please tell me the significance of the insignia on the helmet in the attached photo which I presume is a german item. The insignia is on both sides of the helmet.

Thanks

Looks Belgian to me, maybe the Belgian volunteers for the Eastern front.

Simon.

No need to get upset Peter, this is in fact a former german 2ndWW helmet with a Norwegian Army decal. These helmets were used post-war, by the army and if not mistaken by the civil defence also. They had different liners and chin straps than the original german ones.

Agree post war Norwegian reused German helmet.

One thing, they were often refitted with German liners, sometimes involving reattaching the leather parts with new pins. Most of the time they use a chemical treatment on the leather which turns it a dark red brown.

Regards,

Jerry

Interesting thread, I know an ex Norwegian soldier who is from a farming family, He said that after the war the Norwegian government would have been happy to re equip the new army with the abundant surplus German equip laying around but the British government were keen to destroy the German gear(including vehicles and aircraft) so that they could sell surplus allied kit to them?

And the Norwegian decals add to it's value as mostly these have been stripped and the helmet repainted as a German one, making it worth more than just a shell.

Jerry

HI Good evening , thats a very good point , just like the Irish Vickers helmets that the dodgy dealers`converted `in to great war german helmets coz they were worth more an now the Irish hemets are top dollar its the same with your helmet Peter, because years ago they had little value or collectable interest they were converted , some times ligit by re enactors trying to save a few quid - now they are a valued antique in their own right and an important item of Norweigan history ,Michael
