Default Women’s Royal Army Corps Design Fault

Hi Guys,

It seems that in November 1971 the Women’s Royal Army Corps Cap badge was subject to enquiry as the badge had a tendency to break where the crown and shank joined, due to a design weakness.

This fault was rectified under sketch design No. 03208 but I have no idea what the original and modified badges (if indeed the modification was actually carried out) looked like.

I have attached my example from the London Badge and Button Co Ltd below. Would members also post their examples of this badge so that we can note any possible differences in this area.

Many Thanks

Chris

Thanks Guys,

Nothing jumping out at me here and we are covering from at least 1966 to 1971.

One to keep an eye on though.

Regards

Chris

The GAUNT LONDON badge posted by Mike has a smaller wreath area where it joins the crown compared to the others, could that be a clue?

Rgds,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Could be - compared to my 1970's LB&B the crown has a lot more wreath attached to it.

Regards

Chris

All I can find on mine is that the shank has been moved further up the crown away from the base, so that it sits nearer the top or in the centre.

Here is my contribution. The one with the snapped slider is how I bought it.

Cheers Paul

I looked at mine and did a comparison. The wreath is thicker on some of the badges where the crown joins.Probaly to strengthen it.

Hi Marc, Paul, Mike,

Yes, it seems it is all to do with the positioning of the crown in the wreath. It would be nice to see the proposed sketch to confirm. Some sketches are held in various files in the Kew Archives and are often set in a badge makers commercial frame measuring around 10cms x 5 cms.

Regards

Chris
