Default 6 Soldiers killed in Afghanistan

I wouldn't normally do this sort of thing but this is a little too close to home to let pass without comment. A very sad day for the Yorkshire Regiment as five soldiers from 3 Yorks and (one from 1 Lancs) are killed in Afghanistan.

I’m sure others will join me in expressing condolences to the families involved.

My thoughts too Wilf, I really feel for the families.

One was a very good friend of my son. My last memory of him is telling me lewd stories about my son when I gave them both a lift to get back to their barracks just a few weeks ago.

How fickle fate can be.

‎6 lost, 6 unwanted visits, 6 doors received that dreaded knock, 6 families with shattered hearts; 6 pairs of boots lined up with rifles, dog tags and helmets, 6 comrades remembered and grieved for; 6 funeral services, 6 names on newly made grave markers, 6 empty places at the table, 6 souls who gave all and whose lost lives leave a irreparable void; Let's take 6 seconds to pray for those families. RIP the 5 from 3rd Battalion Yorks and 1 from Duke of Lancs killed in Afghanistan. Stand down heroes, your work is done. RIP

Peter

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

Just awful, and including three lads from the same town.

However, it helps you understand how people must have felt given the casualties of WW1.
