Default 48th Higlanders of Canada.

Looking for a badge of the 48th higlanders of WWII and saw that there are two versions, Silver and gold? It means that one has glengarry and the other from tam or shanters? ...

Default 48th Highlanders badges WW2

Hi, My understanding of the WW2 issue cap badges for the 48th indicates that there were two main issues for other ranks. The or's badges were a white metal, sometimes found in chrome plating. The other pattern of or's badge was the economy issue brass badge. As far as I am aware, there was no badge issued for particular types of headdress.
In addition to the or's badges, there are sterling silver officers' badges.

Default Economy Issue

The badge in the image is the economy issue badge, brass metal. This badge was unpopular with the soldiers. The white metal badge was preferred. The brass badge is somewhat harder to find than the white metal issue.

Default 48th badges

Nice example of the 48th badge. The Roden Bros badges are somewhat harder to find than other issues. Generally, 48th badges are not difficult to find.
Attached are examples of the 48th pattern shoulder title for the unit. These are WW2 issues. The pattern with the white backing material is the British embroidered pattern.

Smile Bgpipes

Hey Bill A., Please share with us the story of why badges that were originally made with a belt buckle annulus were changed to be made without the buckle. This happened in the case of the 48th, and also happened to several other regimental badge issues.
