Guys can anybody come up with any examples of A/A Cavalry badges that are found lugged.I dont mean for the belt buckle,i mean for hat, beret or fs hat ?
I have 4 in my collection :- Life Guards,Household Cavalry,Royal Tank Regt and 17th/21st Lancers which Griff tells me was worn in the fs hat. |

Mike,
I think in anodised they would have been worn on either the beret or forage cap! Cavalry side hats during that period would have been worn by officers only, if at all and with far more elaborate badges. I've seen 17/12st in ano too, often with Gaunt MMs. Best regards Andy |

14-20 Kings Hussars, Silver AA. E-W Loops.
16 Lancers, KC Silver AA. N-S Lugs. Prob not 'genuine', but it's a cavalry badge and it's AA RTR, Black AA. EW Loops. Website will not permit images to be uploaded; I'll try again later. |

Hi William,
I think you will find the silver cap badge with lugs for the 14th/20th Hussars was actually an arm badge worn by the 6th Gurkha Rifles. The badge was was to commemorate their joint service in Italy during WW2with the 14th/20th. The 14th/20th Hussars also wore a small a/a coss kukri's style collar badge as an arm badge to reciprocate the honour. Regards Colin |

RAC with lugs
Quote:
The lugged Royal Armoured Corps AA badge as mentioned by Paddy may be interesting. I have one that came with a shaped red (not maroon) felt backing, that had clearly been there for some time , the badge has signs of having been worn. The lugs do not appear to be the type seen on a belt badges, although they are located 'North and South'. 'Badge Backings and Special Embellishments' qoutes an example of an airborne unit - I think from 1970's - with a red shaped backing. I have a note of it at home but I'm away at the moment and all this is from memory. So this badge is either an unusual example OR a regular belt badge, however I believe it may be the former due to the backing it came with. Any thoughts gents? Regards all Bess |

Bess & All
I have attached pics of the RAC with lugs that I have. Like Bess's the lugs are N/S and not the type usually found on belt badges, it is also marked Gaunt London Paddy |
