Definitely not as 'solid' as I would have expected. That 'enamel'(?) isn't going to last long either with it being die-struck. Heres the front of mine which is a good one and you may see what I mean. |

The badge is fine. There were silver badges usually hallmarked and maker marked, and chrome both marked and unmarked, the latter being the most common. The same is so of the near identical Ferry Command badge.

Your badge is the same as my example, mine was from a reliable Canadian source.

Hi guys
The badge arrived today and I’m a little dubious to say the least. Any comments on these pics welcome. It is a little flimsy in make and looks like it was plated yesterday BC |

You might want to check on whether that blue 'material' is actually glass or an epoxy/enamel - I use the same stuff and paint it on glass to create a stained glass effect.

It's a perfectly good, standard chrome, issue badge. The silver, maker and hallmarked ones are better quality, but about £200 extra!

A very nice badge, chrome does not go dull, thats the point of it. If shiny chrome was a problem then i would have to skip all my police badges.
Your badge is an original, Regrds, Phil

thanks sas1 and phil,
i have never had or held one before so was unsure but you both have eased my nerves over it. the enamel is glass enamel and not the epoxy type so again im more confident in the badge thanks again bc |

The majority of the Ferry Command and Transport Command cap badges were chromed (they were the same save for the scroll), the buttons were white metal, and the wings and half wings silver. It might have been that the silver cap badges were issued to aircrew to accompany their silver aircrew badges (as there were many other areas to RAFTC), or they might be private purchase, with the chromed onoes issued to groundcrews and others who were within the organisation. Near the end they also had bullion cap badges and aircrew badges, and I have one of the former on a cap.
