Default Unusual? Royal Air Force Museum Staff Cap Badge

Hello Guys and Girls,

I picked this RAF Museum badge up at Bushey today, I thought I would share it as it is probably quite unusual. The seller told me they were only issued for a short time in the 1960s and were worn by civilian curators and security staff etc, who wore RAF uniform with this as their cap badge.

Its a small (beret) sized badge in chrome.

Any comments or opinions, positive or negative, are welcome.

I would also, like to say how nice it was to see Steve (Orasot) again and to meet Brian (Fatherofthree) for the first time.

Regards

Phil

They also wore the shoulder designation RAF MUSEUM similar to the RAF REGIMENT one.

I am assuming you meant 'Phil' ?

Thank you Kevin, I nearly overlooked it as its small enough to be mistaken for a sweetheart badge at a glance. I am very pleased to have found it.

Cheers

Phil

It would be nice to find one, I don't normally collect shoulder titles, but the cap and title together would look good. Thanks for posting that picture, very interesting to see.

Regards

Phil

Cheers Jerry, I thought you would like it. I said to Steve ''I think this one might make Jerry jealous''. You need to come North for the fairs mate. I won't tell you what I paid for it

Phil

They are pretty scarce although i'd say not particularly collectible as they are not RAF per se. I know of a couple of cap badges and titles here and there.

I think the seller was a little mistaken in his description though. From what I recall, they were worn for 10 to 15 years or so, when the staff wore tunics and caps, a little like the Corps of Commissionairs. Definately not 60s as the Museum didnt open until 1972!! Nowadays they wear a shirt and tie with a v necked pullover.
