Bryan - Went on a guided tour of Highclere Castle many years ago, sometime a few years previously, the staff there, when doing renovations, found some previously unknown Egyptian artefacts which had been boarded up in a doorway, they were certainly on display then.
Intrestingly, not too far from the house is the village of Burghclere with a small chapel known as Sandham Memorial Chapel. This has large scale paintings by Stanley Spencer of WW1, prompted by his service as a medical orderly ... sobering images. Ritchie. |

Thanks Ritchie,
Igot interested in it so pulled up the site & its very interesting. Apparenty there is a display of the Egypt artifacts collected by 5th Lord Carnavarvon & on loan to the castle on display in the basement & two books about Carnarvon/Carter & the tomb discovery. Would love to get over & tour the castle & the artifacts & might better view the next episode of Downton Abbey, but my wife follows the series & she has told me she has never seen any of the Egypt artifacts in any of the shows. She says the uniforms are quite realistic looking tho. RCN Bryan |
