Default Le Regiment de Maisonneuve

I have a quick question regarding the Maisonneuve buckled variety. From what i can see Mazeas shows the non buckled and the buckled variety of the Maisonneuve badge to be the same except for the buckle on the sheild. I have picked up my first buckled type and immediately noticed a couple of differences between it and my other non buckled versions.. it's a narrower badge thru the maple leaf wreath... the maple leaves end at the crown differently... there are stalks at the bottom of the wreath... the sheild seems alittle different.... the sheild on the back is looks more cast.... the crown is slightly different... is this the way the buckled version is suppose to be?

Default R de M

My badges look similar to yours..the one you have with the buckle is correct. The die used on the badge is certainly different from the economy pattern without the buckle. In fact there is very little alike about the two badges. Collar badges for the unit also come in a buckled and non buckled pattern.

My question is ...was there ever an officers badge without the buckle?

Default Annulus vs Garter

The R de Mais badges that are illustrated have an annulus (no buckle) and a garter (buckle) on the badges. The garter is a design element that many Canadian regiments added to the badges without being granted the honour. See the http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hlight=annulus

I have a couple garter/buckle varieties and mine are very close to the ones above.

I don't recall ever seeing a distinct officer's patter Regt de Mais badge. Indeed, during my time with the regiment, officers either wore a bullion wire badge or a regular (QC) metal badge. As I recall, the collar badges are different for officers, as are the buttons for the dress uniform (DEU).

Hi Adam, can you post an image of the officer's bullion wire badge? (Perhaps the whole set of cap and collars?)
Thanks.

Bill,

I still have my collars. I never bought a wire badge. Will dig out the collars for you and take pics. Might have some time on the weekend.
