A lovely tribute Philip.
Nice choice of music as well including the RQM plus 'Old Comrades' and the pipes with 'Fare Ye Well Inniskilling'. As a point of interest the Band of the Irish Guards features in the opening scenes of the film "Oh It's a Lovely War" on the seafront at Brighton under the baton who the late Lt Col 'Jiggs' Jaeger who was sporting a false handlebar moustache! The small chamber orchestra also used came, I believe, from the Royal Engineers Band. Once again thanks for posting such a moving tribute. Peter |

Irish Guards
I agree Peter, it is great music, and I am now looking for a CD by the band of the Irish Guards.
You sure brought bacl some memories when you mentioned the film 'Oh What a Lovely War', that was back in the 1950's I think, and it took me years to work out what it was saying. Would love to see that film again. John

Hi John
Funnily enough the Irish Guards seem to have made less recordings than the other Bands in the Brigade but their CD's do turn up on EBay, in fact, have just purchased 'Emerald Isle' for a fiver. Discurio is another useful source and can be found on the web. 'Oh It's a lovely War' has always been a very emotional film to me which I have on DVD so watch it quite often. I take my hat off to the way Sir Richard Attenborough handled the making of this film, which could not have been easy. Kind regards Peter |
