Post Commando Cap Badge

I've had this item for over 20 years and never really given it much thought. I was told years ago that the original badges were made from their own mess tins, so anything made of any other metal was a restrike. I'm not entirely convinced by this story, but I have no idea even if there is a remote chance it could be real. So help me out. Even to let me know which Commando unit it actually belongs to.

John

Haven't seen one with a slider before, only lugs. There's also one without "Commando" on top of it, and one that's just a knife. They were used by the 1st Special Service Force or Brigade. see Peter Taylor's book 'Allied Special Forces Insignia' for more info.
