Default Finland's Army

Again from Life Magazine files, a good photograph showing Lt.Col. Ake Wahren and the distinctive badges of,I presume to be,Finland's Civil Guard. The photograph was taken during the first Russo-Finnish war.

Over the years I have travelled frequently in Finland and ranged from Helsinki to Kuopio and across from Tampere to Savonlinna and Lieksa via Koli national park. I have had the privilege to meet many Finns and have attended two weddings.
In 1989 I was privileged too have a (translated) conversation with a gentleman from the Pieksamaki area who had served in the Winter War against the Soviet Union. This was in the days when trains still left Helsinki Station for Leningrad.
There are a couple of museums related to Finland and her army. I have visited the one in Helsinki and the other on the island of Suomenlinna where there is a Vickers tank.
