Default FSSF arrow device

A reputable Canadian dealer has a very scarce FSSF crossed arrow device on auction. This is one of the rare badges for a Canadian Second World War collection. The example in this auction is the American issued pattern, as worn by Canadians. (See Joyce's Crimson Spearhead).

A Canadian manufactured officers' crossed arrows with four lugs has just sold on eBay, $930.00.

I was watching that badge too. I wasn't so sure of it though. Particularly, the feathers didn't seem to show the proper detail. I'm glad I chickened out at that price!!!

I would be interested to hear others' opinions on this badge.

Default 1 SSF Crossed Arrows

This is my example, my Father got it for his collection in the 1950s.

Very nice badge Ed. In part, I was using this image of yours from an earlier post as reference. The badge that I posted above doesn't seem to show the same detail in the feathers that both your badge and the one Chris Brooker had up on eBay in September of this year.

Here are images of the FSSF badge Chris Brooker had up on eBay. Notice the breaks in the feathers. They are present in both your badge and Chris's, but don't appear to be present on the badge in question.

It could be that the gilt is obscuring the detail in the feathers and/or it's just not that good of a photograph. I really don't know, but for $930US one better be sure it's genuine before they fork out that kind of cash.

James

Ken Joyce has an interesting analysis of these "lugged" FSSF arrows in CRIMSON SPEARHEAD. He says they were never issue / ordnance approved, but were likely jeweler made.
