If the backing matrial is a black battle dress martial my standerd rule would apply :
If the backing matrial is black item was made before 1947 how ever may not have been issued untill the 50's due to stock leavels as i have seen printed eagles beeing worn in photos and in the flesh on 52 perod jackets which have come through my buisness .
hope this helps steve

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your post. The material is the grey/blue RAF battledress colour which leads me to believe it could be 50s or 60s. I am having a look at some RAF Regiment uniforms today in the RAF Regiment museum so should be able to answerr the question later.
Regards
Bill

Default RAF Regt. shoulder flash

Hi Snowdrop, the flashes on my BD blouse look identical to yours as viewed but the backing is a thin black canvas (or thick black linen) as are my rank tabs also my housewife has spares the same. I served from '59-'61. and yes, you might have guessed, I cannot get into it now as the atmosphere here in Canada seems to have a shrinking effect on the material. Best regards, DJ.
