Post Young Citizens Volunteers 14th R. Irish Rifles

This picture was published in the (Belfast) News Letter yesterday. They were discussing the exceptionally brave Royal Marine who flung himself on the grenade in Afghanistan and saved his mates lives (and survived!) and were mentioning paralels abourt Rifleman Billy McFadzean (pictured) who won his posthumous VC at the Somme for doing the same thing. Thought it was a very nice picture, and also demonstrated that particular batallions insignia very well.

Default The Holy Grail of YCV collectors

Here is another picture that took a photo of while I worked at the Somme Centre. The Tall guy in the back has an Other Ranks YCV bage with the Young Citizen Volunteers of Ireland Scroll. Hen's Teeth anyone? I have never actually seen one in person and cox shows it as a drawing, see Ard-Ri's avatar

I'd give my left one for that badge, actually, I might even part with both

Default YCV

Cracking photo, and well spotted. I didn't even know these existed until I joined this forum recently. The more I read about the 14th Rifles, the more annoyed I get about the thugs using the name YCV in more recent times. They wouldn't have been fit to clean the boots of that battalion, who seem to have been of good character and bearing.
