Default Officer's 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Hello

Just wondering about people opinions on this one. Could this be a genuine UK-made officer's badge? The badge looks almost identical to the example detailed on page 97 figure 160. of Ken Joyce's "Into the Maelstrom" but there is no picture of the reverse for reference in Kens book.

Cheers,
James

Hi James, the badge looks fine to me. The seller often has some gems in his listings. I notice he has a number of good WW2 cloth pieces as well this week, http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/LUCS-BEST...__W0QQ_armrsZ1

Thank you. It will be interesting to see what the badge goes for. Where does this seller find this stuff. 3rd Bn Mont-Royal, 27th Armoured etc etc. Real gems for sure.

Default Dissenting view.

I'm not 100% comfortable with this being original. Granted the vendor has some wonderful stuff, many pieces that are rarely seen. The reverse of this badge looks rather crude for an officer's quality badge. In addition a close look at the lettering in the scroll shows a thinner font than any photos or badges that I have seen.A look at the examples in Into the Maelstrom all show a fatter lettering in the scroll on all examples.

It may also be the photo, but the silver portions of the badge have a frosted appearance. I've never seen a 1 Can para badge like that.

Dwayne

I think I,m with Dwayne here and I can't put my finger on it but my gut says it looks a little funny compared to all the originals I.ve seen.....just my 2 cents though.....M

Didn't we go around the block with this same badge type awhile ago? Consensus then was that it was a clinker and I don't see anything on this one that is different than the last example discussed.

Thanks for the reminder David. I completely missed that. I reverse my opinion on this badge, and recommend avoiding it.
