There were only about 800 patches made in Japan by Kasamaki and Co.
I owned a couple once including this one in its sealed bag of issue.

There is also a thread here on AATTV patches.

I compared your AATTV badge to the Japanese made one in my collection and it's looks identical. This badge, and a few others, came from my father in-law who served with the AATTV in 1972.

If it's still available I'll certainly add it to my collection.

Ok there's a bit of confusion here so let's sort it out. Before the moderators get excited it is my understanding that it is okay to download these photos from the AWM and use them for educational purposes, which is what this thread is. However they are low resolution.

The one that Mick has shown is genuine and Japanese made. The same pattern as the two I had and the one I have shown with the makers tag.
On the Australian War Memorial site this brassard has an AATTV patch that clearly shows the same pattern, detail and colouring of the one I have shown and the one Mick has shown. There will be some slight differences in colour because the photos of the ones I have shown were taken many years ago with a cheap camera.

The patches made in country are extremely rare. The photo of this brassard also came from the AWM (Australian War Memorial) and shows an in country made AATTV patch.

I have never seen the pattern that John From Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum has provided. It is certainly not Japanese made because the stitching and detail is too rough.
Is it another type made in country? I don't know.

I do know that I can go from photos from the Australian War Memorial.

I think the one offered by Stephen is a genuine Japanese made patch.
On the market that patch would be worth around AUD$350 - 400.
I sold mine at least four years ago and from memory I got $450 for the one in the bag with the makers tab and $400 for the other one.

Default 4 sale- Australian Formation Signs

Good evening,

May I thank everyone who has contributed for their submissions. After deliberation I have decided not to sell the AATTV badge: if it is a fake I don't want to add to the number already ruining our hobby; if it is real I would prefer to add it to my own collection.

I realise that reneging on a trading offer is ungentlemanly but hope you will not think too badly of me in these circumstances.

Please note that the boomerang div patches have been highlighted as being spurious so they are also withdrawn from sale.

With the exception of the AATTV badges, the duds boomerangs, and those already gone to Marc, all the other patches remain for sale.

Stephen.

PS. attached are further scans of the badge I have withdrawn from sale compared to a known dud. I've added these so that future viewers may be better informed than I was a few days ago!

Hi Stephen. You showed this patch on the forum on the 05 June 2010 and I told you then that it was genuine. Airtrooper (Del) also believed it to be genuine.

I haven't changed my opinion.

Default 4-sale Australian FS

Peter,

I think you have mistaken me for someone else as I only bought this badge in May this year. If it is the same badge I would be interested to see who used to own it.

Regards, Stephen.

OK. do you mean 'different' as in it is not an identical pattern, or that you still possess the original badge?

If it is identical in manufacture that would be good to confirm.

Stephen.
