My wife's great grandfather was exchanged in Oct. 1918 via Switzerland. France and Germany had an agreement allowing prisoners with four or more children to go back home. I don't know of any official details and only found out after coming across some notes the great grandfather wrote down about his war and journey home.
Can't say if the same agreement existed between the Commonwealth and Germany. Tony |
