Sadly your thread will become unsearchable and will be lost in the void that is the abbreviation worm hole.........

Luckily now that you have put the full title within the thread it can be found. However, if the thread had continued to only use the abbreviation "SBS/SRR, it would have been very difficult to locate. Not just that, not everyone is "up" on what SBS/SRR stands for and the casual observer with an interest in advancing their knowledge, would be left scratching their head
A classic example here; https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...7&postcount=32 Very simple if you know, but even an experienced collector like Marc doesn't have a clue! Last edited by Nozzer; 24-02-19 at 12:23 PM. |

Special Boat Service and Special Reconnaissance Regiment collar badges
To answer the question:
SBS in anodised aluminium is 35mm x 25mm (Mess Dress) SBS in bronzed finish is 44mm x 34mm (Lovats) SRR in 'new metal' I can't measure at present as in storage Tim

Don't give up! I like to understand what is being discussed. Continual use of a meaningless (to me, but I know I'm not alone) string of letters helps no one. As an aside, as you have already said, the search facility is useless if the subject title of what is being discussed is not set out in full. Its not too difficult!

Nozzer is correct.
I'm still new to the forum , it helps when you put a better description in the title on what you are looking for. Individuals get better answers much faster and also for future reference for other collectors. They can also lead to added info that one might not have known and more indepth discussion, always a bonus. Sometimes acronyms, terminology are great for people who know but as one who use's the search tool before I ask the forum, I have ended up with 20-30 pages to look at (and I do) and there were no answers to what I was looking for. Put a clear description in subject line, the answer came back within minutes with posts and a lot of help from forum members. Phill |

Just an aside based on a whimsical thought, but am I the only one whose noticed the increase in British Army units that have (largely through no fault of their own) adopted cap badges wholly devoid of the current monarch’s crown? Is this some secret conspiracy by the Republican minded, or perhaps one by the Treasury so that when Prince Charles comes to the throne there will be less spent on changing insignia to incorporate a different crown!
1. Royal Regiment of Scotland. 2. Royal Welsh. 3. Mercian Regiment. 4. Yorkshire Regiment. 5. Reconnaissance Regiment. 6. Special Boat Service. 7. Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. 8. Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. The only new regiment bucking that trend was the Rifles. It’s an interesting exercise to compare the situation with WW2. Whoever devised 2,3 and 4 would probably argue that the constituent regiments badges never displayed a QC on their cap/hat badges,so why should the amalgamated regiment display one on theirs. |

The Royal Regiment of Scotland is most appropriately adorned with the Crown of Scotland.

I am wondering after searching if I have dreamt that The Queen had stated that she wants St Edward's Crown to remain used for badges etc beyond her reign? Can anyone confirm? Regards, Paul.
