I could not think of any units that were part of the army 1918 precedence that would have GvR-crown officers' badges apart from Staff for RE Services. I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the Inspectors of Army Schools. I wonder if they were perhaps the officers' department associated with the Corps of Army Schoolmasters. If so, that point in the precedence would make sense.

Thanks,

Tom
Yes, they were.

I realise I’m a bit late on this one, but the crowned cypher GvR was also made the cap badge of the Royal Defence Corps (formed from the National Reserve) in 1918. The RDC was a part of the Army (formed from veterans of the regular and auxiliary armed services) and at its height was quite a strong corps with a significant menu of roles, including the staffing of prisoner of war camps and guarding of vulnerable points (VPs) such as ports and ammunition factories. They were entirely separate to the Volunteer Force (ex VTC) and above them in the pecking order.

I have had the big badge poster for years, of "ALL" the regiments of the British army. Too bad about the Yeomanry. Can anyone tell me definitely when and by whom this poster was made? I have always understood that it appeared in a British Encyclopedia around 1938 but may be wrong. I am only missing two or three of them and have always thought they would look nice set up the same way in a very large frame, but it would be a lot of work.

The RAOC was formed in Nov 1918 by the merging of the Army Ordnance Department (AOD) consisting of Ordnance Officers and the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) consisting of Ordnance Soldiers upto the rank of WO1 into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC)

So the RAOC badge albeit an Officers example is totally wrong.

The AOD Officers badge was the Ordnance Shield with the single word ORDNANCE underneath
