Default Unknown KUMASSI badge

Hi All
Can anyone ID this badge please? I think Kumassi is in what is now Gabon. Behind the word Kumassi there seem to be some intertwined letters, I think it is 'DGC' but possibly a GC and something else reversed, so maybe Gold Coast? It has screw post fittings at the back. I thought maybe a diplomatic badge or chieftain's badge? It is quite large, probably 3-1/4" high.
Thanks, cheers,
Alex

Found a bit of history :

Quote:
In 1871 when the British assumed full sovereignty over the Gold Coast, the 90 men in the Police force was reinforced with a further 400 men. All the commissioned officers at the time were British. The force became the "Gold Coast Constabulary" in 1876.

The Police Ordinance, passed in 1894, gave legal backing to the formation of a civilian police force in the colony. By 1902, the police had been divided into General, Escort, Mines and Railway Police and this was legalised by the Police [Amendment] Ordinance of 1904.
