Alex,

Re The Militia badge its of utmost importance to see how the M is fitted.
Should be a rear rivet or tangs occasionally. No rear fitting means fake.

I believe there is a lot of debate about the GviR badges. My inclination is that they are Malta Fortress Royal Engineers from what I have read in other threads and also the number seen. Many examples are from the same die, akin to yours, which I believe is original.
