Popski Private Army theater made badge
Not sure if this is the proper thread for a PPA badge, but I guess it could be considered as a sort of Yeomanry...
This is a quite rudely finished brass badge I've recently found at a militaria fair. It is marked on the obverse "Rossi, Bari". Peniakoff wrote in Private Army that badges were produced by a silversmith in Cairo and later in Rome, no mention of badges being produced in Bari, but since Bari has been for quite a long time the HQ of British forces in Italy AND of PPA, it is very likely that a small amount of badges could have been produced by a local engraver in order to meet the needs of the establishment that had noticeably increased in size... what's your opinion? Thank you again and all the very best, L. Last edited by loupie1961; 23-01-08 at 10:04 PM. |

The badge shown in your thread sadly is an out and out fake, these have been made in the last few years in the North East of England you will also find another variation with the makers name and made in Milan wrote on it. No Popski brass, white metal or silver had any makers name on it.
Hope this helps. |

Hello Peter, thank you for your reply. You seem to be pretty ultimative, but i think it could help if you could provide some pics giving some evidences of the fakes you're writing about. I knew of the copies made in Milan, but assumed that Lorioli striked cap badges for the PPA once the war was over, exactly as they made for other British, American and Polish formations that still stationed in italy. Sure I was puzzled in finding out an unknown PPA brass badge, but still I need evidences of what you say: by the way, I have paid it far less that one would have for a good one, but this not means much.. either way!
