That may well be true. I may draw some fire here, but for me, ERII badges in some ways represent the demise of the old British Army and the British Empire as a whole, anodized cheap materials perhaps representing this.
I am an American and have collected British militaria for over forty years. I will state this very clearly. I am an unabashed admirer of the old British Empire and always will be, current world opinions acknowledged and understood, but not necessarily accepted. WW1 badges in particular represent a British Army which perished beginning in 1914 and never came back the same, even though the regiments themselves survived, only to begin facing the end starting in the 1920s and virtually completed in this century. I agree with what you are saying, I was more annoyed by the sweeping generalisation of the 'expert' and his extremely patronising tone.
As a teacher I have learned to listen.... |
