A super image, Ron, thank you for posting it. The fact of dyeing white drill jackets intrigued me. The Germans were the world’s masters of colour fast dyes at that time, so in upper Silesia I imagine that the battalion could source a good product. More than that, though, the Sergeant Tailor has done a masterful job in somehow adding gauntlet cuffs, and on the drum major at list a stiffened and fully piped collar. As neither were usually fitted to white drill jackets he had quite a job on his hands, especially given the different weights of material that was likely concerned in that process.

DM dress is red jacket and Black Watch tartan, PMs dress is green jacket and Royal Stewart tartan for pipers.

Rather difficult to understand how they could have been dyed unless the cuffs, collars, shoulder straps and perhaps rear panels if any, were removed and subsequently re-done in some manner. But how would they have been color matched? Note lack of collar dogs as well.

I could be completely wrong of course, but I really do wonder about those doublets.
I am now thinking that they are not dyed white shell jackets, but newly made by a skilled regimental tailor or perhaps locally. Have to wonder what the rest of the band wore.
Note the DM has what appears to be gold russia braid around the base of the collar and also on the cuffs and the shoulder straps are trimmed as well; wherein the PM trim appears to be white with no trim to top of collar and shoulder straps.
