Default South African Marines

Hi, I recently found this badge and started asking around as I had not found a chromed badge like this before. It turns out to be SA Marines, 1950's. An old time collector told me the first badge for the SA Marines was the artillery cap and collars in brass, but the work dress on board ships was the chromed cap badge. I found it very interesting and thought I would share it. Regards Andrew

Default SA Marines

Hello all on this link. I too came across the chromed badge shown earlier but had no clue as to what it was so now I've added it to where I'm lead to believe it should be. I'll try to scan it. Regards, David J.

Hi David, I am glad that we may have helped. I looks as if your badge does not have a loose wheel. The one I have has a loose wheel. I wonder if it is the same or not? Could you post a picture just of the badge? Regards Andrew

Hello Andrew, Mine is a one piece badge, no mounted wheel, so either I have to now search for one like yours, or........? Thanks for your reply. Incidentally, I note you are in SA and can probably get SA stuff easily, Is there anything Canadian you might fancy (badge-wise)? Best regards, David.

Default SAIR

The South Africa Irish Regiment when an artillery unit also wore a similar badge, this was before they were converted back to infantry in 1960. Not sure if it was chrome or nickle plated ?.

Andrew, Further to my last, here are the scans you requested. ( I hope to hear that they are "right" ) I only collect Artillery stuff and have over 50 pieces from SA. Pics of some are posted elsewhere on this site. Regards, David J.

Hi Irishhorse, the SA Irish badge you are refering to was nickle plated. I do not have one in my collection yet. It is not easy to come by. Regards Andrew

Hi David, I will see if I can confirm if your badge fits here, or if not, where it does fit. Regards Andrew
