Help with wings/Combined Ops
Whilst sorting out my badges I came across these two items, the first a parachute with wings in G/M, two loops to the rear, any ideas as to who wore it?
The second is a combined operations insignia in white metal, I believe it to have come from a cigarette lighter or similar, ideas appreciated. Thanks for looking Rob |

The first is a British army badge, para wings for wear on "tropical" dress.
"British Army Proficiency Badges" ("Langley & Edwards") lists it as "87A". Last edited by leigh kitchen; 17-03-21 at 07:27 AM. Reason: BAPB ref. no. added. |

Para wing
Thanks Leigh, it looked British by the fixings.

There are similar sized gilding metal SAS wings too.
There seemed to be a bit of glut of these little para and SAS wings on the market around the late 1970's, 1980's, I was never sure if they were genuine or repros / restrikes, some are quite thick, soft and bendy. |

Para wing

I can't remember exactly where I bought this one, possibly from Granta coins in Cambridge, they don't seem to be around as much now. Rob |

No, they're thinner on the ground nowadays.
I think I picked up my para and a SAS one at Surplus Supplies in Regent Street, Cambridge, around 1980. (My filing system card index re. such badges went to ratchet years ago during house moves). I have another SAS one of noticeably different manufacture to the other. |

Combined Op's
Steve, I think it's off a cigarette lighter, I will keep it as I may put it on my Commando badge frame.
